Scheduled passenger flights serving Phnom Penh now use Techo International Airport (KTI), approximately 20 kilometres south of the city centre. KTI began operations on 9 September 2025. Air Cambodia says the former Phnom Penh International Airport (PNH) closed that day and its flights moved to KTI (Techo International Airport, Air Cambodia).

That distinction matters when using an old guide, map pin or hotel message: look for Techo International Airport and the code KTI, not PNH. If anything appears inconsistent, rely on the airport printed on the current booking.

Choose your transport from KTI

Airport Express Bus: cheapest, but not door to door

The Phnom Penh City Bus Authority lists one AEB Airport Express service. It runs daily from 5:30am to 8:30pm, costs KHR1,500 per trip and has a stated 10–15-minute waiting time (Phnom Penh City Bus Authority). Check that operator page before travelling: the airport’s public-transport page publishes a conflicting closing time of 11:30pm.

The airport describes the city terminus as Kouch Kanong Circle Bus Station. The route follows Monivong Boulevard, with listed stops at Canadia Garden in front of Royal Cambodian Railways, the Royal University of Law and Economics, BRED Bank on Samdech Techo Hun Sen Boulevard and AEON Mall Mean Chey (airport bus route).

The bus works best when one of those stops is convenient for the accommodation and you can manage the final connection. For Daun Penh, compare the hotel address with Kouch Kanong Circle and Canadia Garden. For BKK1, the route uses Monivong rather than circulating through the neighbourhood, so a short tuk-tuk or car connection may still be useful.

If a flight lands close to the end of service, do not count on the final bus. Immigration and baggage collection may take the arrival past 8:30pm.

Taxi or ride-hailing: simplest for a hotel address

Techo International Airport lists standard taxis and the ride-hailing services Grab, WowNow and PassApp. It estimates US$10–20 for a trip into Phnom Penh, depending on the drop-off point, and recommends an official taxi counter or a trusted app (airport directions and fare guidance, taxi and ride-hailing services).

A direct car is the practical default when:

  • arriving after the bus operating window;
  • carrying substantial luggage;
  • travelling with several people;
  • staying away from the bus corridor;
  • wanting one trip directly to the hotel.

Enter the hotel’s exact name and address rather than only “city centre.” Daun Penh and BKK1 are different parts of central Phnom Penh, and the destination affects the route and fare. Compare the app quote with the official taxi offer, choose a vehicle that fits the group and luggage, and follow the app’s pickup directions rather than accepting an unsolicited ride.

A simple arrival plan

  1. Save the accommodation name and full address. Keep the Khmer version too if the hotel provides one.
  2. Set up a ride-hailing app before flying if you expect to use it.
  3. At KTI, check the City Bus Authority’s current AEB hours if choosing the bus.
  4. After 8:30pm, plan on an official taxi, app-booked ride or confirmed hotel transfer.
  5. For the return journey, book KTI: the former PNH airport no longer handles Phnom Penh’s scheduled passenger flights.

Take the AEB when its hours and stops fit and price matters most. Choose a taxi or ride-hailing car for a direct trip to a specific address in Daun Penh, BKK1 or elsewhere in Phnom Penh.
